Summary/Abstract: At the end of 1941 20,000 Jews were deported from Western Europe to the ghetto in Łódź. Among them there were a few hundred World War I veterans, many of whom were Iron Cross holders. The group was officially excluded from the deportations of Western European Jews to the Chełmno nad Nerem death camp in May 1942.
