Summary/Abstract: Alexa Crăciun (1899-1987), the author of the diary, was born and raised in Bulboaca (Deleni commune, Vaslui county). He was a peasant who lived through three wars, survived them, got married, had seven children, lived his entire life through the work of his hands, and passed away at the age of 88. His diary provides an opportunity to reconstruct both the way Moldavian peasants lived and worked at the beginning of the last century and the devastating effects of the Second World War. The pages related to the drought of 1947 and its terrible consequences, the famine endured by the villagers, the journeys made to the Oltenia region to obtain food, or to entrust children they could no longer feed to families there, are all dramatic aspects of the diary.
