Summary/Abstract: After the successful conclusion of the Turkish War of Independence, the first step towards creating a national economy was the convening of the Izmir Economy Congress on 17 February 1923. At the Congress, it was accepted that all economic enterprises should be made in accordance with market rules and that the intervention of the state in the economy should be minimized. However, a crisis that broke out in the New York stock market in 1929 suddenly affected the whole world. After the crisis, which negatively affected Turkey, a transition from liberal economic model to statism was initiated. In this context, the National Economy and Savings Society was established in 1929 with the support of the state itself. The main purpose of the establishment of the society was to encourage the people to be frugal, to save money and to use domestic goods. The society, which put forward the policy of saving for the capital needed by the government, also put forward the policy of domestic goods and exhibition in order to expand the domestic market and increase exports. The congresses organized by the society contributed to the formation of the national economic policy of the government. In this study, the establishment and activities of the aforementioned society have been tried to be revealed by examining the archival sources and the media organs of the period. The study, which deals with the process between 1923 and 1938, aims to contribute to the literature by interpreting the economic problems of the period and the solution policies produced against these problems from a different perspective.
