Summary/Abstract: Armed conflicts today, more than ever, cause serious damage to the environment due to the use of increasingly powerful explosive charges and the burning of fuel used to operate military technology, which causes not only environmental damage by polluting water, soil and air, burning vegetation, but also the destruction of elements of critical infrastructure vital to human existence. The protection of the environment is subject to specific provisions in international humanitarian law contained in an impressive number of documents, the application of which is, however, reprehensibly violated, as even the ongoing armed conflicts demonstrate. The destructive potential of the new military technologies is operationalized and coordinated based on operational concepts aimed at amplifying the effects of the confrontation and obtaining decisive results. One such concept is that of multi-domain operations based on the convergence of capabilities between domains, environments and functions in time and space to achieve the proposed objectives, thus putting in new terms including the issue of environmental protection. This article presents the most important legal documents and ethical principles that can cover from a legal point of view the conduct of multi-domain operations, but also some needs in the regulation of such operations.
