TENDINȚELE UTILIZĂRII CARDURILOR DE PLATĂ ÎN REPUBLICA MOLDOVA
TRENDS OF THE USE OF PAYMENT CARDS IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA

Summary/Abstract: Payment cards have become one of the most used payment instruments globally, including in the Republic of Moldova. The research carried out is based on the analysis of the data presented in the reports of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) for the years 2017-2022 regarding the operation of the payment system, as well as the annual reports of the NBM. The obtained data were synthesized, which allowed the presentation of a complex picture of the trends in the use of payment cards in the Republic of Moldova. The conducted study demonstrated a quantitative and qualitative expansion of the use of payment cards in the Republic of Moldova, with a certain change in the assortment of card types offered. In the same way, there was a complete market dominance of debit cards compared to credit cards, as well as cash withdrawal operations compared to payment ones. Based on this situation, it is necessary to continue the promotion of payment cards and to expand their functionality.
