Summary/Abstract: Quiet ego is positively associated with many positive psychological outcomes. However, the present study aimed to examine physiological effects of the quiet ego as well as the psychological effects. For this purpose, the relationship between the quiet ego and self-rated health and the mediating effect of subjective well-being and basic psychological needs in this relationship was investigated. The sample consisted of 301 participants (143 women, 158 men, M = 33.30 SD = 8.0) from different provinces of Turkey. Participants completed online surveys including demographic information, quiet ego scale, the positive and negative affect schedule, life satisfaction scale, basic psychological needs scale and self-rated health. To test the main aim of the study, mediation analysis was carried out by using PROCESS Macro. The results revealed that total effect of quiet ego on self-rated health was significant and positive, but this relationship became insignificant with the inclusion of the mediator variables in the model. Thus, the relationship between quiet ego and self-rated health was mediated by subjective well-being and basic psychological needs. In addition, as expected this association was significantly mediated by increased subjective well-being and basic psychological needs. The study sheds light on the fact that an inclusive self-structure that goes beyond individualistic values can have positive effects on physical health beyond its psychological and social effects. In addition, the present study is a holistic study that offers ideas about how the relationship between the quiet ego and the self-rated health is realized.
