Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author presents the EU reaction to the crises in Libya and Syria that developed within the broader frame of “Arab Spring“ in 2011. Noticing similarities and differences in the EU external action concerning these two cases, in his final remarks the author considers the reasons for such actions as well as the conclusions on the functioning of institutional novelties of the Lisbon Treaty in the field of external action. The main data source of the paper is official documents of the European institutions and the presentation is predominantly chronological.
