Summary/Abstract: The past glory of Veliki Preslav never faded away, even when the Bulgarians were deprived of their own state. Many researchers and travellers noted the importance of the town in the Bulgarian medieval past and the remembrance of its previous role was retained in the memory of the people. Most important are the records of those authors who were personally acquainted with the imposing buildings of Veliki Preslav. Some of them were looking for the origin of its ruins in Antiquity but others properly connected them with the old Bulgarian capital.
