Summary/Abstract: This article aims to find out what the main environmental actions are taken by different-sized breweries, based on an empirical study of the Tourism and Brewery Route of the state of Rio de Janeiro, which includes the cities of Petrópolis, Teresópolis, Nova Friburgo, Guapimirim and Cachoeiras do Macacu. Methodologically, the article is divided into: [I] Introduction; [II]Contemporary environmental issues; [III] Small and medium-sized breweriesand sustainable development; and [IV] Conclusion, with acknowledgementsand references at the end.
