Summary/Abstract: The European-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is the European Union's (EU) second free trade agreement (FTA) with a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which also marks a key milestone in the EU's 30-year cooperative relationship with Vietnam. Prior to the ratification of the EVFTA, Vietnam began labour law reforms, most notably the adoption of the new Labour Code in 2019. Therefore, this study assesses the changes in Vietnamese labour law to fulfil EVFTA’s labour commitments. Based on EU documents, assessments of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), and related research, we comprehensively evaluate the amendments and supplements, particularly the transformation of ILO core labour standards into Vietnamese law. Accordingly, the study highlights the reforms’ positive aspects while also evaluating its unsolved limitations. Apart from this, proposals are made with the expectation that the labour law reforms relating to EVFTA labour obligations would be efficiently implemented
