Summary/Abstract: For many years now, there has been a discussion in the teaching community, but also outside it, about the teachers’ professional skills, authority and ethos in contemporary school education. Is the teacher only to impart knowledge or also to provide upbringing? If their duty is to do both, the questions arise: Who is to assist them in this task? What is the role of parents in the upbringing of children and their education? What ethical values are to guide modern education in Poland? There is no doubt that a teacher has to act ethically, take care of their professional skills, authority and ethos. They cannot impart knowledge without relating it to the upbringing of the pupil. In the course of educational and upbringing activities, the teacher must be supported by parents and the state.
