Summary/Abstract: In this article the author deals with the genesis of the Church in the perspective of the ecclesiology of J. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s ecclesiology. By examining the writings of the German theologian, he points to the key ecclesiocreative acts undertaken by Jesus. These include the realisation of the Old Testament predictions concerning the people of God in the life and work of Jesus, the disclosure of his identity and mission, the establishment of the Twelve, the election of Peter, the Galilean crisis, the Paschal events, the sending of the Holy Spirit and the mission among the Gentiles. Central to the birth of the Church is the person of Jesus Christ. In his writings, J. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI not only defends Christ’s genesis of the Church, but also calls for a rediscovery in the Church of the presence of God and the risen Lord.
