Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to outline key trends in societal transformations that have occurred as a result of digitization and the rise of social media. Emphasis is placed on the dynamics of reading attitudes and consumer behavior on social platforms. The focus is centered on Generation Z and the change in reading habits that it brings with it. A central point in the article is the parallel drawn by Neil Postman in "Amusing Ourselves to Death" between two famous dystopias – "1984" and "Brave New World". An attempt is made to trace how the two books are related to the themes of post-truth and infotainment in the current digital "reality". Attention is also paid to the public reflection on them in the context of social media.
