Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with Osvaldo Ramous’ poetry. Ramous was born in Fiume in 1905 and saw his town become part of Yugoslavia. In 1945, in fact, Fiume became a Yugoslavian town and changed its name to Rijeka. Osvaldo Ramous experienced the worst period in the history of the Italian people living in Kvarner: in the aftermath of the Second World II, all Italians were regarded as fascists and paid for everything the Fascists had done against the Slavic people in the occupied territories of Yugoslavia. Osvaldo Ramous fought bravely for the rights of the Italian minority. His poetry, however, is an attempt to escape from history and to seek refuge in a poetic world where there is no place for history. History, however, still manages to slip in Ramous’ verses in a silent and neurotic way.
