Summary/Abstract: This article presents the main semantic aspects related to the lexicalization of proper names in Romanian language. On the lexical-semantic level, proper names become common names through the process of antonomasia. In this article, proper names become common names can be examined by many directions: a) drawing up a list of words classified according to semantic fields; b) proper names that have become common names classified according to the scope of the vocabulary; c) common names derived from proper names with multiple lexical meanings; d) analysis of the corpus of simple proper names that have become simple common names or formed by derivation with suffixes and prefixes;e) the research of some groups of proper names that have become common names through compounding; f) analysis of Romanian antonomasia. This paper also included a special category of proper names that have become common names that can fall under the typology of neologisms and can be divided into: simple or derived with suffixes and prefixes. Thus, a significant number of simple borrowed neologisms represent a lower percentage than derived neologisms. The particularity of simple neologisms consists in the fact that some of them have undergone changes in meaning and significance, both in their source language and in the vocabulary of the Romanian language, but retain their form, and others have undergone formal changes, but not semantic ones or have preserved both the original form and meaning. Analyzing the specialized sources, we noticed that proper names that became common names with the help of the means of vocabulary enrichment called composition, are found in a rather small percent.
