Summary/Abstract: In the aftermath of the Cold War, the Black Sea was rediscovered as a region and has become the target of regionalization discussions and initiatives. The predictions regarding the regionalization of the Black Sea included that economic cooperation would increase the regional development and welfare, develop interdependency between the countries of the region, and thus the historical and political conflicts between them would be resolved. Despite the important steps taken around the goal of regionalization and the region's significant strategic importance, however, the Black Sea regionalization could not be realized. The Black Sea region has politically, economically and culturally heterogeneous structure and the economic, political and geostrategic priorities of the countries in the region do not overlap, thereby overshadow the economic cooperation initiatives and prevent regionalization attempts.
