Summary/Abstract: It has been said in the past that English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has little in common with Pragmatics, but research and studies starting with the end of the last century offered a different perspective on ESP, demonstrating the contrary. Due to the rapid development in the technical domain, the globalization, the changes in the international markets, certain modifications can be observed in the way the language is regarded, i.e. slowly, but gradually there is a shift from the study of specialized vocabulary or syntax to the formulaic and contextual requirement. The present article, far from being exhaustive research, tries to offer an overview on the relationship between ESP and Pragmatics in technical language, with focus on two important aspects, i.e., The Speech Act Theory and Context Reference.
