Summary/Abstract: The need for German as a technical language has increased in recent years. Some students of the Technical University of Cluj who decide to study Technical German, unfortunately, have little knowledge of the general language. Although it is theoretically possible to start with the subject-specific language teaching below the certificate level, the appropriate teaching materials are missing. Teachers are forced to create their own teaching materials, an undertaking that can be quite complex. In addition, it is problematic to create up-to-date and attractive technical teaching material for the wide variety of technical departments. The difficulties begin with the choice of the appropriate technical texts, which are regarded as basis for the technical language teaching. This article deals with the problem of the search and optimization strategies of addressee-specific technical texts, the criteria that are taken into consideration when selecting texts and the possibilities of task design. Finally, the text selection and editing are illustrated by a text from the field of electrical engineering.
