Review of the publication „Silent graft: labour and class in the Baťa factory“

Summary/Abstract: The book Silent Graft investigates the social reality of manufacturing companies that employ manual workers. It reveals the social contexts of the various actors, primarily manual workers, and provides an assessment of their existence from a range of important viewpoints. The author reminds the reader that even though the share of such work is significantly lower today than it used to be, it remains significant and, for certain social groups, it is the main way in which they earn their livelihoods. The author does not avoid problematic or unpopular aspects of the topic and manages to effectively map the area of interest. The book can, therefore, be recommended to all those interested in the way in which the current labour market functions via the example of the micro-world of a shoe factory.
