Summary/Abstract: The paper will present the basic characteristic and structure of identification systems as well as definitions and classification of international identifiers and their role in open science. The basic information necessary for the application of international identifiers ISSN, ISBN, and DOI will be explained. The paper will provide an overview of the possibilities and assessments for which types of materials and under which conditions a certain identifier can be requested.
