Cultural Heritage Tourism In Veliko Tarnovo As Destination In The Context Of Sustainable Development

Summary/Abstract: The aim to establish and promote the destination Veliko Tarnovo is consistent with the principles of sustainability. The development of tourism in this destination depends on the economic, social and cultural-educational level of development of the region. Maintaining the right balance between these components, crucial for the good life quality, is a guarantee for a long-term sustainability.The article examines the main determinants of sustainable development and its relation to cultural heritage tourism. The development of cultural heritage tourism in Veliko Tarnovo as a destination is analyzed in the context of the understanding of sustainability.Based on the data analysis in the present article, it can be concluded that the development of cultural tourism can guarantee preservation of cultural and historical heritage in Bulgaria only if it is in accordance with the concept of sustainable development of tourism.The established trends of the last years provide additional arguments in support of the need for sustainable destination management and skillful application of the principles of sustainable development.
