Summary/Abstract: The article examines the impact of the Rural Development Program (RDP) in the period 2007-2013 on the business in Gabrovo district and in particular on the tourism business, as part of the economic and social development of the region. The measures included in Axis 3 of the RDP 2007-2013, supported by empirical data, and investments in the field of tourism, as a main catalyst for socio-economic development, are analyzed. An analysis is made of the results of the provided funding under the RDP and the investments made in the field of tourist services, which argue the benefits of the programme on the development of rural municipalities in Bulgaria, mainly in renewal of settlements, increasing their competitiveness and supporting local tourist product.
