Summary/Abstract: This paper examines the impact of macroprudential policy instruments on maintaining financial stability throughout the European Community. The applied instruments of macroprudential policy in the Member States of the European Union after the global financial crisis of 2007-2009 have been examined and the resilience of financial institutions in Europe in the conditions of COVID-19 has been analysed. Emphasis is placed on the observed trend of increasing enforcement of macroprudential regulations at Central European level, while supervision remains largely decentralized at the level of individual Member States. The analysis shows that the implementation of macroprudential measures throughout the EU has resulted in financial stability and adequate regulation of financial markets, which is a prerequisite for the Community to deal with disturbances similar to the COVID-19 crisis in the future.
