Summary/Abstract: Grimm fairy tales, which are of great importance in German youth and children's literature in the West, have maintained their popularity for centuries. But at the same time, they have changed and evolved in every century from the past to the present. Especially with the influence of postmodern thought on literature, fairy tales have also begun to be deconstructed, turned inside out and rewritten as counter fairy tales. These counter fairy tales, which bear the traces of intertextuality, turn the motifs and figures of classical fairy tales inside out, give them new meanings and sometimes deal with taboo subjects. The aim of this study is to analyze the motifs and figures in the German youth literature writer Hanika's multi-award-winning novel Red Riding Hood is Crying, a counter-tale to the classic fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood, in the context of postmodern elements and intertextuality, and to make visible which motifs are inverted.
