Summary/Abstract: Ivanka Vlaeva’s book “Traditional communities and archival documents. Music of Muslims in Bulgaria” is the first attempt to outline, analyze and systematize the so-called “Turkish” archival materials from the Musical Folklore Archive of the Institute of Art studies – Bulgarian Academy of sciences which is the oldest musical archive in Bulgaria. The author offers a chronological systematization of the recordings with “Turkish” music in the Music-Folklore Archive: in separate sections are presented the recordings of Turkish musical samples from the 1950s, the archival recordings of “Turkish” music from the 1960s those years of the 20th century, the role of the artistic amateur movement. The innovation of the monograph is also in the formulation of the research object and problematic, in the search for answers to the questions: what can be read in the archival records of “Turkish music” and what musical images they resurrect.
