Summary/Abstract: On a one month corpus of a daily newspaper Politika, the author examined a newspaper literary criticism from rhetorical structure theory standpoint (RST) – a theory of text organization by the authors William Mann and Sandra Thompson (1987), in other words, the paper examined validity of applying the mentioned theoretic model on the texts as a whole, being narrative structures of a special kind by analyzing nucleus and satellites on clause level. In order to determine the level of agreement in results analyses, we started from genesis and genre characteristics of newspaper literary criticism observed in genre characteristics of news, reports and comments and basic discourse funtions of this heterogeneous newspaper genre – informational, evaluation and autorepresentative. The aim of the research is to determine how rhetorical structure of the text reflects its dicourse function and genre characteristics.
