Summary/Abstract: The article argues for the usefulness of pedagogical literary readings with the need to study the works of the secondary school curriculum according to their established historical and aesthetic definitions. For each national literature these definitions are given by its best connoisseurs. According to V. G. Belinsky, G. A. Gukovsky, Yu. Lotman and others Eugene Onegin is the first realist novel of Russian literature. In the Bulgarian school excerpts from it are studied as an example of romanticism. The article comments on the untenability of this claim which requires students to find non-existent things in the text.
