Summary/Abstract: The initiative of bringing into the present some aspects of Hortensia Pagubă’s life story (1869–1931), is an attempt to look into the past feminine universe with its inherent happiness and unfulfillment. Coming from the intellectual elite of Arad, together with other women from the town’s high society, she was involved in charity work and different national and cultural events. After a marriage of 13 years (1890/1891–1903), she divorced her husband, the renowned lawyer Dr. Ioan Suciu, with whom she had their son, Eugen. The correspondence fragments describe moments of fulfilment and, at the same time, the tensions between the two. An example of the feminine generation from the turn of the XIX–XX centuries, she lived with dignity, continuing during all her life to be a model of coexistence for the younger generations.
