Summary/Abstract: Reading is considered a skill of upmost importance by both second and foreign language students and teachers. It is also a skill learners of a second language often find difficult to develop to a high level of proficiency, since fluent reading is regarded as a rapid, purposeful, interactive, comprehending, flexible, and gradually developing process. Modern technologies in the foreign language classroom can be used to assist in the development of fluency in reading, as well as in improving digital fluency. The article examines the nature of reading, the role of ICTs in the context of developing students’ reading skills and presents some ideas on how to implement technology in the ESL classroom.
