Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses some aspects of the crisis and renewal of the calling of sociologists today. From the standpoint of sociology of sociology, the author analyzes the position of sociology and the status of sociologists in contemporary society, and especially in the Serbian society in transition. His marginalia touch upon the crisis of society and the crisis of sociology as well as the crisis of the social and humanistic sciences. The author pleads for the renewal of sociologists’ calling and sociology as essential prerequisites for scientific research of the development of modern democratic society, which focuses on human rights, humanization of social relations and emancipation of man.
