INTERNATIONALISM AND PACIFISM OF DJORDJE TASIC

Summary/Abstract: The author starts with the thesis that Tasic remained faithful to the true supporters of comprehensive international cooperation who have demonstrated that differences and conflicts between states and groups in society are by no means inevitable, and that they can be resolved by peaceful means. The differences are a natural consequence of pluralism of characteristcs and beliefs. They are a confirmation of the existance of different nations and states, just as the international law is a proof of the existance of above-mentioned entities at the international level. The paper critically analyses this thesis, taking in account and using as 175 foundation Tasic's understanding ог internationalism and pacifism, that had been most comprehesively been presented аг series ог his lectures аг the Hague Academy for International Law in 1938. The author pays special attentiоп to Tasic’s discourse оп war and peace. In the second part of the paper the author reviews Tasic's pacifist's ideas. Tasic explained his support for and adherence to the ideas of pacifism by reffering to internationalist solidarity which does not end at a state’s border but it rather transcends it. He especially made refferences to trade unionism and agricultural collectives movement. The author warns about Tasic's , excessive optimism, who believed that it is possible to abolish war in the future that is not so distant, and that the ideal of peace can be achieved in the present times. Тће author concludes that the personal tragedy ог Djordje Tasic is the tragedy of the nation to which he belonged at the same time. By accepting relative pacifism, Tasic accepted the struggle Гог peace in which certain limits that cannot be crossed still exist.
