Summary/Abstract: Scientists have studied different aspects of the complex reality of the Amazon Basin. Among the main areas of research are such topics as social organization, cosmology, mythology, ecological adaptations, and conservation of the tropical rainforest. One aspect that has not been addressed sufficiently is the archaeological investigations of the sacred sites of the Amazon. Due to their importance, this is why the sacred petroglyphs were chosen as the topic of our research. This article attempts to present the state of archaeological investigations in the Colombian Amazon and the importance of the sacred petroglyphs for our understanding of the Yucuna Indian culture.
