Summary/Abstract: The following article sets out to highlight, from an historical and geographical pointof view, the particularly interesting forms of ephemeral urbanism, its link with public spaceand social organization. By ephemeral urbanism we understand those structures for leisurepurpose normally located in the surrounding areas -fairs, circuses and large exhibitioncenters- as well as the temporary transformation of this space during holiday periods. Thisresearch is based on a diachronic analysis that frames this typology of urbanism as a source 18of propaganda and entertainment. It will also highlight that the functional objective of this ephemeral urbanism is not only the innocent entertainment of the population, but that under an underlying premise it seeks to establish tools and structures of power and social control. Therefore, it will try to demonstrate the role of urban planning and the configuration of public space in the ideological formation of Western societies.
