Summary/Abstract: The study discusses the different extensions in the semantic field of visual, auditory, tactile, gustatory and olfactory perception verbs in English and Bulgarian within the framework of Cognitive Linguistics. The analysis outlines 41 patterns and a wide range of lexical meanings, realized within a given patternwith emphasis on how contextual meanings appear. The research aims to present a new approach to analyzing lexical items, by paying special attention to verbs denoting passive perception in particular.
