Talent search in Hungarian stand-up comedy

Summary/Abstract: The current paper presents the associations of stand-up comedy in Hungary, then shows the opportunities of how somebody can start a career as a stand-up comic. There is no institution where you can learn stand-up comedy or comedy club in Hungary. So, associations must organize open mics and talent shows to find new members. This study explores these processes through interviews with the leaders of the associations (Gergely Litkai – Dumaszínház, György Orosz – Stand Up Comedy Humortársulat, Ádám Török – Stand-up Budapest) and my observations by participating as a spectator on open mics and content analysis of television versions of talent shows. Finally, this text compares the Hungarian associations and its activities with each other.
