Summary/Abstract: Jesus often uses the term “bread” in reference to the sacrament of the Eucharist in His Eucharistic speech in the Gospel of John (John 6:22-71). One of the most important expressions used in Jesus’ speech is “bread from heaven”. In the present article, the author tries to answer the following questions: why does Jesus use this expression? What is the relationship between “bread from heaven” and manna? Which texts of the Old Testament give a better understanding of this expression? What does it mean for Jesus? The answers to these questions will enable us to better understand the mystery of the sacrament of the Eucharist in the Gospel of John.
