Summary/Abstract: The physicist and priest John Polkinghorne believes there are fi ve aspects to define the dialogue between theology and science in the last thirty years: rejecting reductionism, mainly as science admitted that physical processes cannot be studied in themselves, but in the context of reality as a whole, in interconnection; compatibility of the dynamics of the universe described in science as permanent creation; rebirth of a new causality in the science compatible with natural theology; comparison of the specific methodologies of both science and theology underlining, besides the inherent distinctions, a mutual motivation in making research of the world based on faith; the physical processes are open to intrinsic collaboration with man and God. The scientific epistemology renounces its absolute claims. Contemporary epistemology is open to existential knowledge. Comprehended as such, it can be the ground for an authentic dialogue with theological epistemology. Prestigious contemporary scientists show, in their research and manner, the availability for dialogue and for crossing the boundaries of science. This does not apply any interference in the specific competences of theology, being just the availability for dialogue that expresses the possibility for theology and science to become complementary. Facing such an availability, theology must not miss the chance of a meeting that might be of benefi t to both sides.
