Summary/Abstract: The article places in a theoretical framework specific empirical facts, concerning the revitalisation of mythological and folklore-related therapeutic practices by neo-pagan and new-age groups in Bulgaria. These practices are based on ancient beliefs in the unusual energy or power in certain places of the ethnic territory, affirmed as sacred in the course of cultural development. Ritual actions are usually fixed at peak moments of the annual calendar cycle, tied to archaeo-astronomical beliefs and concepts. The motives for innovation and modification of ancient beliefs and practices by these groups whose consolidation is a product of modern times are examined.
