THE GENIUS AS A CULTURAL HERO

Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to build a comparison between the figures of the genius and the cultural hero with an emphasis on similarities. In order to achieve this, an attempt is made to systematize the paradigms of the genius and the cultural hero. The conceptualization of the genius paradigm is based primarily on Immanuel Kant's theory in “Critique of Judgment”, but also goes through the understanding of the genius in the essays of Thomas Mann. Meanwhile the conceptualization of the culturalheroic paradigm is based primarily on the work of Joseph Campbell “The Hero with a Thounsad Faces”. The main problem in the text is about the extent to which Kantian and post-Kantian genius is analogous to the (mono)mythological cultural hero.
