Summary/Abstract: The Polish Republic, reborn in 1918 and since February 1921 linked to France by a military-political alliance, was soon considered by Paris as a useful partner in a potential air war against Germany. The talks held in 1924 led to preliminary arrangements concerning such cooperation, including i.a. the project of dislocating French reconnaissance and bomber squadrons in Poland in case of war. However, after 1926, as the misunderstandings between Warsaw and Paris were deepening, further agreements were in fact suspended. In 1936 attempts at crystallizing the concept were restored and in May 1939 proper arrangements were finalized. In the spring of 1939 Poland initiated similar talks with representatives of the British air forces but had not finished them before the outbreak of war. In September 1939 the dilatory conduct of France and the fast progress of the Reich offensive made it impossible to implement the Polish-French plans of air cooperation.
