Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse the presence, incorporation and adaptation of Japanese loanwords, from a contrastive perspective, in those dictionaries of an academic tradition which are compiled in Nuevo tesoro lexicográfico de la lengua española (NTLLE). Without ignoring the use, progressive naturalisation and increase of Japanese expressions in recent Spanish and, therefore, their gradual incorporation into other lexicographical sources, we start, for methodological reasons, with the 59 words registered in the 23rd edition (2014) of the Diccionario de la lengua española (DLE), which is updated online. Taking them as a reference point, we study their graphic and morphological fixation, the conceptual groups into which they can be classified, and, in this regard, we provide some etymological observations on their semantic configuration in Spanish. Finally, from a diachronic point of view, some of their defining aspects are traced chronologically through the NTLLE dictionaries, complemented by the consultation of other academic corpora (CDH, CORDE and CREA), until definitive definitions are arrived at, and also, as far as is objectively possible, by observations regarding their ideological reflections in the evolution of the mentality of the receptive Hispanic culture.
