Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the problem of ethos « deconstruction in civic discourse on the example of Internet users » comments on the 2018 Nobel Prize for Literature awarded to Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk on October 10, 2019. The analysis demonstrates that following the non-validity of ethos, argumentation gives way to insults establishing an ideological struggle on the media scene. The analysis is based on works on new rhetoric (Amossy, 2006, Perelman & Olbrechts-Tyteca, 2008) and disqualification in discourse (Laforest, Moïse, 2013; Laforest, Vincent, 2004; Vincent and Barbeau, 2012). The comments were selected according to their dysphoric tone from many published on Polish Internet sites (« dorzeczy.pl », « gosc.pl », « wprost.pl », « niezalezna.pl », « fronda.pl », « wpolityce.pl » and « salon24.pl ») in the period from October 10, 2019 until the end of January 2020. The prize caused controversy, the discursive moment was characterized by a great informative and interpretative activity of the media as well as that of the readers.
