Summary/Abstract: The article is the continuation of the analysis of Gołuchowski's tractates. We consider that Gołuchowski's thoughts on the individual and society respond to the ideas of Machiavelli's, Hobbes', and Rousseau's political philosophies. The article discusses how the philosopher opposes the basic attitudes of Smith's "Wealth of Nations" and works out possibilities of restricting the utilitarian interest. By emphasizing the principle of individuality, Gołuchowski joins the ranks of the authors of romantic and post-Kantian hermeneutic philosophy. It is pointed out that the value of different attitudes and activities of individuals to society was emphasized by Gołuchowski and predates Mill by a third of a century and that this emphasis is a fundamental difference between Plato’s concept of ideal state and the ideas expressed by Gołuchowski. Finally, the relationship between the philosophy of life and Gołuchowski’s ideas are analyzed.
