Summary/Abstract: Literary history and criticism have not shown more significant interest in the creative potential of Aleksa Mikic to the present day, and, unfortunately, his work has remained sealed by the character of engaged 'national-liberation' literature for children in a one-sided and highly engaged realistic tone of 'action and battles,' or simply by the character of realistic autobiographical stories with the leitmotif of the heavy burden of a poor rural upbringing in Bosnia and Herzegovina between the two World Wars. This paper seeks to examine other poetic features of Mikić's work – indications of post-war premodernism, and even fragmentary post-war modernism in the collection of stories Sunny Beach (1954), but also through ethical criticism of the background of various boy characters in Mikić's collection Stories of Little Fighters (1962). This ethical background today, without questioning the aesthetic characteristics of Mikić's art, however, due to its ideological nature, requires the reintegration of such and similar texts in children's literature, since the main characters are boys fighters. However, all this shows that the work of Aleksa Mikić is much more poetically complex, but also more literary relevant than it seems at first glance.
