Summary/Abstract: The communication "Tatars and Turks in the painting of Nicolae Tonitza and Iosif Iser" presents, in essence, admirable plastic creations of the two painters in which a red epicted aspects from the life of Tatar and Turkish communities, which are present for centuries in the multiethnic, multiconfessional and multicultural province of Dobrudja. In the paintingsdepicting Tatars and Turks we find both a sought-after and consciously accentuated exoticism – visible especially in their portraits –, as well as a substrate of admiration and love for them. The characters depicted in paintings have a superior understanding of their human condition that lacks frustration, indignation, revolt, they lead a simple, unsophisticated life, enjoying the small pleasures of life. They are hospitable, sincere and warm people, with a noble soul. Their portraits convey a subtle note of resignationand fatalism, but above all a deep humanism.
