Summary/Abstract: In the Pila (Piła) Municipal Cemetery on Motylewska Street there is an unnamed grave with an inscription stating that a priest rests there. In a relatively new necropolis, established only in 1964, some unidentified graves are rare, so it is all the more surprising that there is an anonymous grave hiding the remains of a clergyman. A search conducted in the records of the Pila (Piła) Municipal Cemetery Administration Office and the archives of the Pila (Piła) City Hall allowed us to establish beyond doubt that the grave in question is the burial place of Father Franz Westpfahl, a priest of the Pila (Piła) prelature, who died in September 1931 and was buried in the now-defunct cemetery on Polish Army Avenue in Pila (Piła). During the liquidation of this necropolis, his remains were exhumed in March 1976 and reburied in the new cemetery on Motylewska Street, in a grave unmarked by any name.
