Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to take a functional look at the culture, literature and language of Poland which is perceived as exotic in the Republic of Korea. In the introduction, the geopolitical conditions of South Korea are outlined, which, to some extent, may reflect the country’s accessibility for foreigners and the openness of its inhabitants to foreign cultures. In the next part of the outline, an attempt is made to introduce Polish-Korean relations on the basis of popular science publications in Poland and Korea. An analysis of selected publications confirms the thesis of the exoticism of Polish language and culture in Korea, whilst at the same time indicating mutual interests and searching for common places in the historical past and in literary texts. Next, the reception of Polish literature in Korea is presented as one of the possibilities of taming a distant culture, as is the history of the only Polish studies course so far at the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and the language policy of the Korean government towards the education of rare foreign languages. The outline also includes a description of the project, which involves the creation of a series of textbooks that will enrich the offer of Polish language glottodidactics with material addressed to Korean-speaking audiences.
