Summary/Abstract: Cleaning the petrographic support is one of the most toilsome technical processes in stone restoration. The present study deals with the cleaning of a Roman statue made of metamorphic rock, a statue in the heritage of the Ioan Raica Municipal Museum in Sebeș. The combination of mechanical cleaning with chemical and physico -mechanical cleaning remains a challenge for the restorer who is confronted each time with a distinct case of degradation and is faced with identifying the best methodology for applying active conservation through cleaning.The cleaning of the monumental statue in the heritage of the museum in Sebeș was the subject of the second campaign of the stone conservation and restoration workshop held here in collaboration with the National Museum of Unification Alba Iulia. The technical solutions were chosen on the basis of some cleaning tests carried out in advance with great care to avoid damaging the support.The deposits were various, consisting of surface crusts (black crusts, crusts of cemented dust or various deposits of lime or mortar of various kinds). The removal of these deposits was carried out gradually, in different stages until the final result was achieved. Although the process was hampered by the persistence of surface degradation, it was carefully chosen and meticulously implemented.
