COLECȚIILE ȘCOLILOR MUREȘENE DIN A DOUA JUMĂTATE A SECOLULUI AL XIX-LEA ȘI DIN SECOLUL AL XX-LEA
THE COLLECTIONS OF THE MUREȘ COUNTY’S SCHOOLS IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY AND THE 20th CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: A considerable cultural wealth lies in the collections of various state and denominational educational institutions. They are not only purely didactic collections, but may also represent the seed of a new museum. The history of secondary school collections in Transylvania begins in the 15th century. The oldest, though not the most important, school collections are those of the Evangelical Lyceum in Sibiu, of the Roman Catholic Lyceum in Odorheiu Secuiesc, then, starting with the 16th century, of the Roman Catholic Lyceum in Odorheiu Secuiesc, and then, starting with the 18th century, those of the high schools of Târgu Mureș. But most of the school collections in Transylvania date from the second half of the 19th century. The most important school collections are from the 19th century and two of them are those of the Bethlen College in Aiud and of the Romanian Greek Catholic High School in Blaj. In addition to these school collections, there are also so-called private collections which belong mainly to teachers. In Mureș County, there were a total of 36 collections of which 19 were school and 17 were private collections. In the course of time, 18 of them became part of the private collection of V. Lazăr, a collection that has largely disappeared (V. Lazăr's widow sold the most valuable part, but it is not known to whom) and a part is still in the Mureș County Museum's repository.The paper aims to present the most collections from the schools of Mureș County, but also a brief description of the artefacts, as well as their history. The main collections described are: the collection of the Roman Catholic Gymnasium in Târgu Mureș, the collection of the Reformed College of Târgu Mureș, those of the Evangelical Schools from Reghin and Sighișoara as well as the smaller collections from rural schools such as Grebeniș, Bogata, Cuci, Miheșul de Câmpie, Pănet, Lueriu etc.
