Summary/Abstract: The document, a facsimile of whose manuscript appears in this edition, is а part of the archive of the great Bulgarian artist – composer, pianist and pedagogue – Dimitar Nenov, preserved in the Scientific Archive of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as Personal Fund No. 216. Untitled by its author, the text represents a part of his statement before the jury of the All-Bulgarian Competition for Children and Youth (1952), prompted by his observation of the lack of criteria for evaluating the interpretation of pieces from the Baroque era, shown in relation to the performance of Bach’s Three-Part Invention in E Minor BWV 793. Nenov formulates the characteristics of the Baroque style in comparative terms with the Renaissance, Gothic and Rococo, bringing out as the main stylistic determinants the principles of the construction of art forms in art as a whole and the worldview of the era. In his statement, the correct understanding of the style and the revelation of form through its intonation – both as a whole and as elements of the structure – is brought out as the foundation of the keyboard art. Moreover, the analogy “architecture – architectonics” in the same stylistic context is the leading one, and it is indeed on this basis that Nenov offers a compositional-dramaturgical, thematic and interpretative analysis of Bach’s piece in question.
